W H Mawson was one of the early craftsmen at Keswick School of Industrial Artand was the 'best worker' in 1898. He left and set up on his own in C1900
(See history below)The Keswick Home Industry(see Photo 11 dtd 1913)
William Henry Mawson set up the Keswick Home Industries around 1900/01 after leaving the Keswic...k School of Industrial Arts having won the school prize for best worker in 1898.We believe he wanted to be able to mark his own work and use his own designs so set up in direct competition with the KSIA. Although we know from pieces that he copied a great many of the designs from the KSIA and he hired the lads from the school during the winter months.
He was also an artist and a music teacher so the man was talented and although he had many strings to his bow I think the KHI is his lasting legacy.(Text & photo courtesy of ksia.co.uk/history)
The tray is beautifully decorated with flora & faunaThere are a couple of bumps around the rim and one end has been pushed in a littlePlease view all the photos which form part of the description and provide details of the sizeThe tray retains a considerable amount of patina. There are 2 schools of thought on polishing to a nice shine and as some prefer not to have it polished I have only washed and wiped it over I have not polished it at all so that the buyer can decide on which finish they prefer
