Antique Georgian 9ct Gold, Flat Cut Garnet, Pearl and Hair Mourning Brooch / Lace Pin, in Very Good Condition This antique brooch / lace pin dates from around 1820 - 1830 and is made of 9ct yellow gold. The brooch front is set with twelve 'flat cut' genuine almandine garnets in vibrant deep crimson / mauve shades. The garnets are set around ...a rectangular glazed locket compartment, which contains a small plaited hair panel and which is surrounded by lustrous, seed pearls. Please note that the photos have been enlarged to show detail, actual measurements are given below. Weight3.4 grammes DimensionsThe brooch measures approximately 1.9cms x 1.6cms. For further size detail please see the photo of the brooch on a cm ruler HallmarksAs is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the brooch has been professionally tested and has been found to composed of 9ct gold. Gems12 x 'flat cut' garnets, genuine seed pearls ConditionThis brooch is around 190 - 200 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just light signs of general wear, consistent with age. The garnets are all in very good condition with no chips or damage. The pearls are also in very good condition, all appear to be original and some vary in shape / size. The glazed hair locket compartment has light superficial wear to the surface but this is not obvious to the naked eye. The plaited hair beneath the glazed cover is in very good condition. There are a couple of light scratches and minor irregularities in surface finish on the reverse of the brooch. The 'c' clasp is in secure working order.
