Ladies often tell me that the original old pieces don't suit them as the proportions are so delicate. This original necklace has larger proportions because of the actual glass that is used in it. The glass is Czech Crackle glass and the manufacturing process involved putting the boiling glass into cold water so that small fractures were caused internally and these fractures catch the light whilst the outside remains smooth. It was a dif...ficult process and generally used in large items such as water jugs so these small pieces of glass are rare.
The wonderful vivid Bristul Blue glass cabochons are open set in bezel settings manufactured from good brass which was then silvered. Some of the silvering has worn away due to wear and time. The open settings allow the light to flood through and play with the crackles within the smooth glass. Each setting is individually wired so that the necklace flows well. It fastens with a secure ring bolt clasp ~ this is original and does work but you need to remember to push the little bolt back. Because of the construction of the necklace it wouold be an easy matter to replace the clasp with a modern one for wearing.
15 inches in total. This is a SMALL size so please measure properly before buying or consider adding a few jump rings which are easily and reasonably found on Ebay. Each cabochon is app 13 mm. A larger proportion as these are usually app 8 mm at best and so may suit some people better for modern day wear.
