Very Early Child's 1-Room School House Slate c.1850-1855 !DESCRIPTION: Interesting, PARTICULARLY EARLY American antique child's slate. The kind that a child would use c.1850-55 in a 1-room school house. A nice large piece of natural thick slate set in a rectangular wooden frame. Has rounded, dove-tailed corners and has nice style and early design. You can picture a young student doing his lessons on this!! Scans show it all, including the "dovetailed" corners and w...ood joinery that was used in the frame. Has really nice large carved "E" as shown. Period style, about 3/8" tall letter. Faintly written in pencil, appears to be the name "ELIZA". No doubt the original early owner!This makes a great decorationitem, hanging on a wall in a kitchen, family room, or living room, or on a shelf or mantel. GREAT FOR DECORATION OR CAN ACTUALLY BE USED. Also, a great addition to an education or early school collection or display. It is just a really nice, primitive Americana item from the early days of our country. It measures about 13 1/2” long x 9 1/2” wide overall.
