A large portion of the collection was acquired by a well-known Doctor whose family history in China goes back to the 19th century. Up for auction is a FINE ANTIQUE CHINESE OR JAPANESE HARDWOOD RECUMBENT ELEPHANT FIGURE. A very unique and old figure likely dating to the 19th century. Carved of a fine hardwood I am not sure if the Elephant would be Chinese or Japanese in origin? The figure has a beautiful old patina. The figure is from the collection of the known scholarly object collector William Lipton as labelled, which is very nice provenance to have with the figure. The serial numbered tag would indicate the figure likely went through a sale at Christies or Sotheby’s New York at some point.
Condition: Having some old age shrinkage cracks and minor imperfections to the wood. Overall good intact and presentable estate-fresh condition as seen.
Size: Large size to display measuring 12 inches long, by 8 inches wide and 5 inches tall.
