Antique English Victorian needlepoint sampler set 1869 by 2 Cowton sisters, ages 9 & 11.
This is a beautiful and rare set of needlepoint samplers on burlap by two English sisters, Jane and Edna Cowton, ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO!, dated 1869.
Nicely matted and framed in oak, the samplers are in quite good condition (considering their age); the elder sister's work has damage on the upper right side of the piece (see last photo).
