Our main markets are Europe and North America and we export worldwide. Antique Victorian Drop Trunk Single Fusee Flame Mahogany Wall Clock C1860 This is a superb Victorian flame mahogany drop trunk wall clock by J Welli...ng, Biggleswade, circa 1860 in date.
The painted dial with Roman numerals, signed, single fusee movement, the trunk flanked with decorative carved scroll brackets.
Condition:
The clock is in excellent working condition the movement having been cleaned and serviced, the case having been polished, in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Restoration:
Movement dismantled and all parts examined and tested.
All detents and pivots re-ground and polished.
Bearings supplied and fitted.
All steel and brass components cleaned, buffed and burnished.
Escapement dismantled, cleaned, synchronised and set.
Movement regulated.
Case cleaned and polished.

Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."
The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
