This is a cast iron statue bust of George Dilboy Inscribed on the back of the statue: "ORDER OF AHEPA SOUVENIR OF 1936 CONVENTION BOSTON, MASS" At the very bottom of the statue in very small letters on the base if some additional information it appears to say:" P.T. PLD FOR STU IOS "GEORGE DILBOY - Feb 5, 1896 to July 18, 1918 WW1, US A, U.S. ARMY Company H, 103rd Infantry, 26th Division1st ( First ) Greek-American to be awarded the Congressional Medal Of Honor during World War 1. General Pershing listed George Dilboy as being 1 of the 10 Greatest Heros of WW1.
George Dilboy has the distinction of being honored by three U.S. Presidents. Woodrow Wilson who signed the authorization awarding the Medal Of Honor, Warren Harding who sent the warship USS Litchfield to bring his remains back to Arlington National Cemetery and Calvin Coolidge, former Governor of Massachusetts who presided at his final burial.
George Dilboy is buried in section 18 of Arlington National Cemetary.
A full sized statue of this soldIier was erected in Hines, Illinois. This one is 6" High.
Dilboy Stadium was constructed at Dilboy Field in Somerville Mass in 1953.
Dilboy VFW Post # 529 is also located in Somerville Massachusetts.
