Holiday Sale!A Pennsylvania Dutch quilt which we think has a Humility Myth block!c 1890-1900The myth as it stands....told by the old timers of the area. "only God is perfect so their quilt can't be perfect" The quilt makers would add a little spin to their creation, possibly a different fabric, block, some sort of change to keep in good standing with the higher powers above. Many think its just a myth, but others do believe its true. After studying this example, I did find one block tha...t is slightly different than the rest. By changing one fabric to a Lancaster blue shade, there is an illusion of looking like an H. But the pattern stays the same in a nine patch. I did think this was really a clever way to represent this belief.Measures 89 x 78 inchesHand quilted at 6 stitches per inchEdges are turned and hand sewn. Batting is thin. Hand pieced.Colors are green in solids and prints, tomato red, Lancaster blue for background blocks on point and background and back double pink.Crisp, never used or washed. Some color lift spots to the green.
