Original Description:
A pleasing, finely cast, & very appealing "Security Safe Deposit" iron still bank. This bank is listed & an example is pictured in the Andy Moore still bank book on page 104 item #891. This bank was possibly produced by the Kyser & Rex Co. of Frankford, PA as mentioned in the Moore book. Clearly the castings are of the fine quality that Kyser & Rex produced. But, we are not certain whether they made the bank.
Underneath the bank embossed in the casting is the wording :" 100. Pat. Fe...b. 15. 81. Mar. 1. 87 ". So, this was covered by one patent in 1881 as well as another patent in 1887. The bank measures 3 7/8 inches tall by 2 13/16 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches deep. The bank has a weight of 1 pound 3.8 ounces.
The gold accent paint is mostly worn off, but still visible in places. There is some wear on the front panel from the two sectioned combination dial being turned. There are no cracks & there are no repairs. The hinges were missing when I bought this, so I cut two finish nails to length, and created hinges. I used a black Sharpie to darken the silver finish of the nails, but you may want to use something that will adhere better, if you're even worried about it.
The bank still retains the original iron baffle inside under the coin slot.
The combination is R7, and the lock mechanism works just fine.
