*** This CSA 6-pound... cannon ball from Gettysburg is one of the rarest cannonballs in the word.
*** There was only one - 6 pound field gun/cannon at Gettysburg and this cannon ball came from that cannon. The 6 pounder was in Latham's Battery from North Carolina, under Longstreet's Army of Northern Virginia.
*** The Rosensteel/Eckert collection is the core of the the National Park Service museum collection. Some items have been deaccessioned by them over the years; others were held in the personal collection of the Eckerts, some of which have also been dispersed by family members following the recent deaths of Larry and Angela".
*** This super rare 6 pound Cannonball was part of the Rosensteel/Eckert collection and was recovered at Plum Run on the Gettysburg Battlefield many years ago. This is the only area of the Gettysburg Battlefield that these super rare Confederate 6 pound cannon balls have ever been recovered.
*** The 6 pound Cannon Ball was purchased from the family prior to the deaths of Larry and Angela by George Olinger. George Olinger was Postmaster in Gettysburg when Dwight D. Eisenhower was President and they became friends. George was also a consultant to the Smithsonian Institute and was the Head of The Historic Society in Gettysburg Pa. for 20+ years.
