TRS - 80 Cassette Communications Terminal Software RARE
Item History & Price
This is a rare and unusual piece of TRS-80 history. CassetteCommunication or “CASSCOM” is a terminal software for using the TRS-80 Model 1or 3 without a serial (RS-232) interface, to connect to a TRS-80 Modem-1through the cassette port (with a standard 5-pin DIN cable).
On the TRS-80 Model 1, a serial interface could beprohibitively expensive: it required the optional Expansion Interface ANDoptional serial RS-232 board. The Modem-1 (and only this model!) provided aunique work-ar...ound, by allowing the cassette connectivity. But it couldn’t usestandard terminal software, as it needed something to do the timing andserialization of data. Enter CassComm, which does this and provides basicterminal capability for this unusual configuration. The terminal was bare-bones, and the software could be alittle flaky, but it worked. It allowed me to get online in the late 70’s/early80’s, (back in the days of BBS’s, before the public Internet.I don’t think they sold too many of these. It was a special-order-only item. As a result, it’s a rare and odd piece of TRS-80history, that belongs in any TRS-80 enthusiast’s collection.Includes CassComm software on cassette and manual. Manual is in excellent/like-new condition. Cassette is in very good condition, though given the age of the cassette, I can’tguarantee that the software will load. Please contact me with any questions. Payment due within 5 days of auction close.See my other listings for more rare TRS-80 items!
