Up for auction is this original NEC Multispin CDR-38 CD-ROM drive from 1993, including SCSI terminator and original power supply.
It is in good physical condition and very clean. However, the plastic has gotten very yellowed over time. This does not affect operation & it hasn't gotten brittle or started to break, just discolored. The bottom is painted metal and more accurately reflects the original color. Please note the white piece of paper in the photos for color reference.

The drive powers on and spins up a disc, however I have NOT been able to get my (much-more modern U160) SCSI card to recognise it through a series of adapters. I don't have a more period-accurate SCSI card to test it with. Because of this, it's being sold in AS-IS condition, with no guarantees offered or implied as to its functionality or its compatibility with your machine. Please do your research before bidding to make sure this drive will work with what you're intending to use it with.
If you can get it working, this would be a great drive to compliment a classic Mac, Amiga, retro Unix workstation (Sun, SGI, etc.) or 286~386~486 PC with a suitable SCSI card.
This item will be shipped in a STRONG BOX, well padded with bubble wrap and suitable packing material. I do NOT waste your time or money with shoddy packaging that results in broken merch, so bid with confidence!
PLEASE NOTE-----Canada buyers: all shipping options include tracking & insurance
USA buyers: all shipping options include insurance. Select 'Tracked Packet' if you'd like a tracking number. 'Small Packet' doesn't include tracking!
Outside North America: I happily ship worldwide, but sometimes the automated calculator won't show a rate to your location. Please contact me if you are interested in this item & this is the case, and I will quote you actual cost to your location.
