Beautiful, little John Deere advertising celluloid and cloth tape measure. The tape is from circa 1919 based on my research. On one face there is a portrait of John Deere with the caption "JOHN DEERE - HE GAVE TO THE WORLD THE STEEL PLOW". On the other face there is a John Deere logo for with the caption "MOLINE, Ill. - THE TRADE MARK OF QUALITY MADE FAMOUS BY GOOD IMPLEMENTS". On the inner-side edge of the celluloid casing it is marked "PAT. 7-16-17, 11-4-19, PARISIAN NOVELTY CO., CHI...CAGO" (the patent numbers may be off as the writing is tiny and a little hard to read). The celluloid casing is in near perfect condition, has gorgeous light green and yellow coloring, with no dents, dings, or scratches. The cloth tape has a little fraying in the first couple inches, but is very good beyond that, and in overall great condition. It pulls out and retracts smoothly, and there is virtually no tarnishing to the metal pull tab. This would be a great addition to any John Deere or celluloid tape measure collection.
