BEAUTIFUL LARGE ANTIQUE FRENCH TOILE DE JOUY LINEN PANEL WITH CHERUBS c1850
Dating from the mid 1800s this is a beautiful antique French fine linenToile de Jouy panel that would be perfect for any period textile projects. It looks to me as if it was once some kind of a cover for a chest , box, large footstool or similar as it has a flat top with gathered side panels. It has also at sometime served as a curtain as there are small rings across the t...op. The linen is a fine weight and the vignettes are gently muted and very easy on the eye. There are many superb vignettes for use and this panel could make many gorgeous pieces and be used in any projects. There are cherubs holding rose couronnes above a dancing couple at a maypole, cockerels, horses, grape harvesting scenes, haymaking, sheep, dogs , geese, a sledge , rose filled baskets and a man playing the pipes. Difficult to measure as I have left it just as it comes but here goes.....(!) The central flat panel made up of three joined panels is 165cms wide by 66cms deep The left hand ruffle 25cms The right hand panel ruffle 34cms The top and bottom ruffle panels are approx 17cms. A genuine period toile with many vignettes for use. All the items in my listings, unless described otherwise, are either vintage or antique. They have all had a 'past' life, a history to tell - and this inevitably affects their condition through use and handling. I do my best to make my descriptions as accurate as possible but please do not bid if you are looking for pristine items; you will not find them in my auctions!
