Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:19199163 | Size: Twin ~ Full |
Technique: Patchwork | Material: 100% cotton |
Color: Multi-Color | Pattern: Whig's Defeat |
Please notice the Whig's Defeat part of the quilt is in the center, framed by strips of feed sack rectangular swatches. The corners end in square-shaped feed sack swatches.
The quilting pattern is called wineglass.
All the piecing and quilting was done by hand. The printed fabrics are all feed sacks, as far as we can... tell.
This pattern was common in the 19th century, when the "Whig's Defeat" happened, but being made of feed sack we must think the quilt was rather made in the 20th century, probably in the 1930's or so.
The green feed sack used on the curved blades of the pattern is the same all over. The "hands" at the corners of the pattern are made of different feed sacks, but only a handful of them, as many "hands" have the same print.
