This computer has been relisted as the previous winner of the auction didn't pay or respond to any of my messages.
I am only offering local pick-up for this computer, I will not ship this item to you. If you can't pick it up yourself then you will need to organise a courier to pick up, package, and ship the computer to you. I will not be providing any of these services. For sale here is a vintage Commodore PET Model 2001-32N B computer. This is an extremely rare Japanese version of the machine with Katakana characters on the edges of the keys, and a special character and editor ROM set on the logic board that allow it to display both English and Japanese text. This computer runs on 100V power and will require a 240V to 100V step-down power transformer for use in Australia and other 240V countries (mostly European). Alternatively, you can likely swap out the power supply for a modern multi-voltage one. It's being sold as-is for parts/not working with no guarantees about its functionality. Please take a look at the listing's photos to see its physical condition.
The PET has general wear and tear as well as some rust spots that are mainly on the hood of the CRT (see photos), but I would consider it to be in good condition. The CRT looks good without any cracks or burn-in from what I can see and displays vibrantly.
I originally bought this computer when living in Tokyo around 6 years ago to repair and restore, but only got as far as socketing and replacing all of the RAM chips which now presents a 100% consistent problem instead of a bunch of random ones (eg. sometimes it wouldn't boot past the test screen, it would occasionally boot to a screen where you could type things in but often the wrong characters would come out, etc. - it never worked correctly). Now it simply progresses to the screen you see in photo #12 and some of the characters flicker. It could be a bad logic chip, video RAM, BASIC ROM, etc. I'm in the process of shifting the majority of my collection and don't have as much time to be fixing things these days.
A great resource for PET information, software, EEPROM chip files, etc. is zimmers.net. I urge prospective bidders to check out his site. In fact, the Japanese character ROM file on his site came from this very PET! Apparently nobody had bothered to dump it before I did.
