This is for a very nice large antique sterling silver cigarette case from 1899. It has an image taken from the famous painting by Reynolds sometimes referred to as the 'Cherub Choir'. The embossed image shows five angels with wings and framed with clouds. The case is nicely detailed on the faces and it has a simple embossed border around the image. The inside of the case has retained its gilded finish and it has a strap inside for holding the contents. It is a well made case with ...a good strong feel and it is in excellent condition with no damage and it has a strong clasp. It carries a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks which date it to Birmingham 1899 along with the makers mark H&A for Horton & Allday. It measures 100mm (4") x 73mm (2.75") and the initials in the monogram on the back are K.W.R.J.
