Item History & Price
12" Wide Complete Rare Vintage P. Marshall Signed Bovano Vintage Maple Tree Bonsai Mid-Century Modern MCM Sculpture in Bonsai Pot with Fused Gravel, Rare Non-Enameled BonsaiThis sculpture is in great condition. There is one small stems on the side (see photos) that does not have a leaf attached. I don't see any signs of damage but I do not know if the stem was made that way or once had a leaf... attached. There is also a chip on the front top of the pot that appears someone blacked out. (See photos)
"This Bovano bonsai is an American masterpiece signed by Perry “P.” Marshall and was probably made sometime between 1964 and 1974. It is 7 inches tall, and 12 inches wide. Normally, Bovano table sculptures are enameled but this one is not. It is made of solid golden colored metal, perhaps copper or brass. The pot is made to look like a traditional bonsai pot and is full of fused gravel. I love the way that the branches look gnarled, exactly as an ancient bonsai should.
Bovano is an American company founded in 1952 that specializes in beautiful enamel-on-copper items, ranging from housewares to sculpture. (Perry) P. Marshall is one of the most famous artists who ever worked for Bovano and his signed enamel sculptures are sought after by collectors. Many pieces were tagged as having been designed by P. Marshall but a relative few were actually signed by him." - coin3rdgen (ebayer selling similar item)
