VINTAGE Cambridge Memories, Inc. "cmi"(TM)"Expanda Core"(TM) Iron Core Memoryfor Digital Equipment Corp PDP ComputersBONUS: 8", 5.25", 3.5" Floppy Disks!!
This is a beautiful Cambridge Memories, Inc. "Expanda Core"(TM) Iron Core Memory Board that worked with DEC PDP Computers. I think this is from a PDP 8 or a PDP 11.
It measures ~14 inches x ~11 inches and is around 1 inch thick at its thickest point.
I think it is 128 kilobytes - not a typo: KILObyt...es, not megabytes or gigabytes - but some people have told me that it might be only 64 kB. According to Wikipedia, in 1980, the cost of a 32 kB magnetic core memory board was around $3, 000.
It is being posted to Vintage Computer Parts and Accessories but I feel that I could have posted it as an Art object, like an Oldenberg conception reduced to practice by skilled engineers and fabricators. Actually, I used to have it hanging on my wall as a piece of art.
As a BONUS (see photo), I am also including:1. One blank Nashua FD-1-WP 8 inch SS/SD floppy disk, Part Number CC8901-200 with original Tyvek sleeve (with instructions printed on the back). NOT A TYPO: 8 INCH floppy, not an 8 mm Micro-SD card.2. One blank Maxell MD2-D 5.25 inch DS/DD floppy disk with original Tyvek sleeve. ("MD" = mini-disc)
3. One blank Maxell MF2HD 3.5 inch floppy disk (with a blank adhesive label).
The floppies aren't as artistic to display or as old as the cmi iron core memory, but could help to add completeness to your memory display.
I have some other storage media (inquire, if interested), but you can still buy blank recordable CDs, DVDs, SD cards, and USB drives at your local drug store, supermarket, or discount stores.
