HTML Style Sheet Acoustic Research AR-1 Loudspeaker Pair w/ Altec 755A (Mahogany Finish) Description Edgar Villchur and Henry Kloss changed the loudspeaker paradigm with the release of the AR-1 in 1954. The acoustic suspension design traded efficiency for bass extension from a small cabinet. The 12" woofer used was capable of deep response and was widely lauded. It was even used for teaching medical students the heartbeat. Of course, ...Alnico was the magnet of choice. The midrange/high frequency driver was the famous 755A, an 8-inch full range driver of Western Electric design, produced by Altec Lansing. The 755A also uses an Alnico magnet for superior performance and is highly sought after by collectors.

Production began in 1954. Retail $185.
Condition Serial #5080 and 6528 Acoustic Research AR-1 Speaker Pair, Mahogany Finish, Made in USA. Units are in VERY GOOD condition, show wear and tear, nicks and scratches. Units are in EXCELLENT working condition and sound great. These are the early version with Jumpers instead of the High Frequency Control Knob.
The 12" Woofers and 8" Altec 755A Drivers are in EXCELLENT condition. One grill backing is cracked on either side of the woofer, but still fits well. Each cabinet sadly had a set of legs installed on one side.
