I am offering for sale, a 1862, Personal Diary of Attorney in Occupied Alexandria, Virginia, during Civil War. It is in Fair to Good Condition, Original, 9 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches, loose cover and some contents. Attorney was a J. L. Kinzer, sympathetic to Rebels/Confederates. Outstanding content, some dates not used, some more than others, for news and notes. Battles mentioned, news of war, names of Occupying Union Officers, names and stories of friend...s and business people, who were detained and arrested during 1862, including Kinzer, himself. Great detail of description of Federal Soldiers and their conduct and actions in occupied city, which was taken over by Union forces in 1861. Kinzer makes no secret of his feelings towards U. S. government and occupying forces, some good, mostly bad. Also included in diary, is a hand written note, from Provost Marshals Office, giving permission for travel. Diary tells of troop movements on river and into city, news of war in areas around Virginia, usually using the terms, "Federals" and Confeds. By far the best Civil War paper I have ever had the privilige of owning. Script is hard to read, but can be done, and is worth it. Dates used in diary are from January 1 - December 22, with content on 103 days during this time, some only to mention the weather, some full page.
