Revell Ed “Big Daddy” Roth’s Custom Cars Tweedy Pie, Mysterion, Road Agent, Beat
Item History & Price
The Mysterion, Road Agent and Beatnik Bandit are 5 1/2" long and Tweedy Pie is 4 1/2"
I got these kits in 1961 along with the "official" Ed "Big Daddy" Roth spray paint that Testors sold at the same time. The name of the paints went along with the names of the cars; Tweedy Pie Purple, Road Agent Red, Mysterion Yellow and Beatnik Bandit Green -- I kid you not.
...The models that were reissued in the 1970s came out with different color schemes. These are the original edition cars and colors. When Ed Roth's custom cars, trikes and The Rat Fink became notoriously famous on the West Coast it immediately spread all over the USA in surf and car culture.
I was building model car kits from Monogram and the other makers but when these kits showed up with the custom paint colors, I really took my time and put in my best effort. I was very pleased with the results and I never did the flocking thing on the interiors while the paint was still wet. I thought that was the coolest thing back then -- it doesn't take much to impress you when you're 11 years old. The "plexiglass" domes on 3 of the cars come off for display.
These are very fragile of course and the Road Agent is the most delicate. I have to re-glue the front end suspension before I ship it, I'll be very careful and pack it well.
