Description*Suzuki Kiitsu 鈴木 其一 (1796~1858) ：
Kiitsu was born in Edo as a son of the ancestor of Murasaki dying dyer. He became a pupil of Sakai Hoitsu when he was little and he ...became a private attendant of Sakai Hoitsu and he learned the painting from Hoitsu by living and taking after Hoitsu. He learned not only painting but also tea ceremony or Japanese poem.
His pseudonym Kiitsu, Waiwai, Seisei, Shukurin, etc...
*Byobu / Folding screen：
Byo from Byobu stands for a wall or a fencing, and Bu stands for a wind. Byobu is made for the protection against the direct wind from entrance. Byobu makes the wind line different. History of Byobu is very old and in China Byobu was used as a windbreaker already in Han Dynasty, and it became traditional as a part of decoration of rooms of royal. Also in Japan, Byobu was valued as a decoration for Shognate and always placed in the room of castle as an luxury art. In the process of getting luxurious, a painter who draws on Byobu also became important to make Byobu more valuable. Lots of kinds of artists who has different way of painting tried Byobu painting. In an artistic sensibility, picture was painted which was supposed to be looked in the condition the screen is folded. Shadow and lights make the Byobu picture looks different for each time of the day and seasons to enjoy it. The folded Byobu can be enjoyed its beautiful picture not only looking from the front but also from the right side or left side. Then and now, Byobu is used for very formal occasion like weddings or Japanese traditional performances on stage, such as Noh or Kabuki and so on. ConditionMaterial = Paper.
