The gaming token or gambling chip itself has 3 men on the front, in a wooded setting. On the outer ring of the Mother of Pearl, there is a month or butterfly, fruit, and flowers.
The reverse side features the same intricately carved outer ring. The 3 initials are so fancy, I cannot really distinguish.
The outer edge is ridged and then delic...ately wrapped in a hand crafted equally ornate 1.5mm (approx) 14 Karat Gold ring. The romance side and outer edge has been hand carved to subtly compliment the mother of pearl gaming token.
I had this done for my wife about 20 years ago, and she never wore it.
Chinese mother-of-pearl gamingcounters probably first came to Europe in around 1700 as the inspiredinnovation of a sea captain or else a “supercargo” one of the men primarilyresponsible for the trading of the East India Company boats when they began trading with China. It is often claimedthat the very highest quality was seen between 1790 and 1800. By 1840, countershad become much enlarged, thicker, often had shallow- or deep-carved designsand may also have shown fretted (pierced) borders.Based on my research before I both this, I would estimate this piece at the late 1700s, early 1800s. I had this made as a gift, but things change....
