A Japanese, Banko-type ware teapot in the form of an elephant with rider, dating to the early 20th Century. The unglazed, grey pottery elephant is shown with a raised trunk, and is ridden by a young boy. The saddle cloth is glazed and painted with flowers. With original cane work handle. Measuring 5.5" high (not including the handle), and 6.75" long, and in perfect condition apart from a small repair to one corner of the lid (see photo 6).
