Up for auction this week is something truly unusual. I've never seen one of these before. This is the Teakettle, by Guild. Stamped 1960 on the bottom. This radio came with a rechargable 9V drycell battery inside. The trivet is a charger! Look closely on the right side and you will see 2 terminals, which match the copper strips on the bottom of the teakettle. The idea was, charge the teakettle, and take it around the house with you, replacing it... on the charger when finished. The trivet is cast iron, as a real one would be. The radio itself is wood construction with brass accents and handle. The top of the kettle appears to be porcelain as is the handhold itself. The brass plate opposite the spout is removed by taking off 2 screws to access the battery. The speaker is on the bottom. I have put a regular 9V battery in the radio and it does work and I get a couple of weak AM stations. Rechargeable 9V batteries are available which can be used to power this radio. Weight is 11 pounds with the trivet, 7 pounds without. The teakettle is 8 inches tall with the extended handle bringing that up to 12 inches. Trivet is 2 1/2 inches tall and measures 7 inches square. Teakettle itself is 8 inches square at its widest. The spout brings the width up to 10 inches. This radio is very rarely seen. Don't miss this one! Buyer pays shipping charges. Paypal only.
