VERY IMPORTANT ITEM INFORMATION, PLEASE READ! This auction is for an antique Civil War era Carpet Bag Purse from the estate of Marianne Gaillard Willisson Spratley. Purse was thriftily made from a very old Oriental Tapestry rug. Very neat whip stitch along the outside edge and on either side of the strap handle. Most likely used as a sewing work bag by Marianne when we fou...nd it it contained all her letters to her daughter Elizabeth Willisson Stephen. Elizabeth and her Mother published a book in 1886 entitled "The Confessions of Two". Body of the purse measures 12 1/2" by 13" and is 34" long. It is in excellent condition.
