REAL DAVENPORT beach Sea glass RARE J/Q PIECE Clear with Cornflower and cobalt blue. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS First Class Package.
WHAT IS SEA GLASS?
DEFINITION : Sea glass is any glass that has found its way to the ocean and over many decades of a combination of powerful surf, sand, and stone naturally tumble smooth and frost glass pieces into ocean-tumbled sea&n...bsp;glass jewels. Sunlight also contributes to the making of sea glass and through the oxidation process gives the glass its distinct glow. The older the piece it the better it will give off its internal glowing appearance.
ORIGIN : Davenport California is a small coastal town in Santa Cruz county with a population of just 408. Its Located just north of Wilder Ranch State Park and Highway 1 will take you right through heart of town.Davenport beach is one of several beaches located at the base of the sheer 100ft cliffs in the small town, but unlike the others only here will you find the one of a kind mixed array of surf tumbled art glass that is unique and can't be found anywhere else on the planet.
WHY DAVENPORT SEA GLASS IS ONE OF A KIND: The San Vicente Creek runs off on to Davenport Beach and into the Pacific ocean. If you follow the stream up into the outskirts of town you will come to the Lundberg Art Studio where bins of end of day glass scrap is stored outside. Every now and again the Creek will flood during the winter time and wash out the storage tubs of the studios end of the day, throw away, scrap glass, leftovers which are stored out behind the studio. When this happens sometimes the loose glass is swept off into the Creek where it makes its way down to the beach.
GRADING SEA GLASS:
To establish the worth or value of a piece of sea glass, you need to evaluate 3 things: First: The Grade of the Beach GlassSecond: How Rare is the ColorThird: The Size and Shape of the Piece GRADE It takes a long time for a glass shard to become a rounded and frosted jewelry grade. Therefore, jewelry-grade glass is much rarer than craft grade. Most fine sea glass jewelry is made with Jewelry A sea glass. That doesn't mean that craft grade cannot be used for jewelry or vice versa. The choice is left up to the artist. However the very rounded and naturally-symmetrical look as well as the evenly-frosted surface makes Jewelry Grade A sea glass a natural choice for jewelers.
A piece of sea glass that is not very frosted or is chipped or broken can lower the grade and perceived value of that beach gem. There are 2 MAIN divisions when grading sea glass quality and those are JEWELRY GRADE and CRAFT GRADE.
1)JewelryGrade:AKAJewelry Quality or (JQ) - Jewelry A CharacteristicsEvenly and thoroughly frosted with very rounded corners.No chips, poorly-rounded corners, or visible defects.Excellent for fine jewelry. - Jewelry B CharacteristicsSame qualities as A grade sea glass butwith a small chip ordefect visible from one side only ORmore defined edges/corners.Very good for jewelry and arts.

Characteristics A Jewelry (Other) piece of sea glass may have more than one of the defects of B grade, butbecause of unique shape, color, or other qualities, it could make a nice jewelry piece.Evenly and thoroughly frosted but 2)Craft Grade: AKACraft Grade, (CQ) or often called Mosaic Quality
- Craft A Characteristics Evenly and thoroughly frosted butwith chips or defects visible from both sides ordistinct angular edges andnot more than 1 rough or cracked edge.Good for many art and craft projects.
