Despite his short lifetime, Schubert left behind a vast oeuvre, including more than 600 secular vocal works (mainly Lieder), seven complete symphonies,  sacred music,  operas,  incidental music and a large body of piano and chamber music. His major works include the Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 (Trout Quintet), the Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony), the three last piano sonatas (D. 958–960), the opera Fierrabras (D. 796), the incidental music to the play Rosamunde (D. 797), and the song cycles Die schöne Müllerin (D. 795) and Winterreise (D. 911).Born in the Himmelpfortgrund suburb of Vienna, Schubert's uncommon gifts for music were evident from an early age. His father gave him his first violin lessons and his older brother gave him piano lessons, but Schubert soon exceeded their abilities. In 1808, at the age of eleven, he became a pupil at the Stadtkonvikt school, where he became acquainted with the orchestral music of Haydn,  Mozart, and Beethoven. He left the Stadtkonvikt at the end of 1813, and returned home to live with his father, where he began studying to become a schoolteacher; despite this, he continued his studies in composition with Antonio Salieri and still composed prolifically. In 1821, Schubert was granted admission to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde as a performing member, which helped establish his name among the Viennese citizenry. He gave a concert of his own works to critical acclaim in March 1828, the only time he did so in his career. He died eight months later at the age of 31, the cause officially attributed to typhoid fever, but believed by some historians to be syphilis.Appreciation of Schubert's music while he was alive was limited to a relatively small circle of admirers in Vienna, but interest in his work increased significantly in the decades following his death. Felix Mendelssohn,  Robert Schumann,  Franz Liszt,  Johannes Brahms and other 19th-century composers discovered and championed his works. Today, Schubert is ranked among the greatest composers of the 19th century, and his music continues to be popular.Kraus in 1971.
Lili Kraus (3 April 1903 – 6 November 1986) was a Hungarian-born pianist.Biography[edit]Lili Kraus was born in Budapest in 1903. Her father was from Czech Lands, and her mother from an assimilated Jewish Hungarian family. She enrolled at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, and at the age of 17 entered the Budapest Conservatory where she studied with Zoltán Kodály, and Béla Bartók. In the 1930s, she continued her studies with Severin Eisenberger,  Eduard Steuermann in Vienna and Artur Schnabel in Berlin, who focused her interest in the classical tradition.Lili Kraus soon became known as a specialist in Mozart and Beethoven. Her early chamber music performances and recording with violinist Szymon Goldberg helped gain the critical acclaim that launched her international career. In the 1930s, she toured Europe, Japan, Australia and South Africa. In 1940, Kraus embarked on a tour of Asia where, while in Java, she and her family were captured and interned in a concentration camp by the Japanese from June 1943 until August 1945.After the war, she settled in New Zealand where she spent many happy years playing, performing, and teaching. She became a NZ citizen and resumed her career, teaching and touring extensively. In the early 1950s she performed the entire Beethoven sonata cycle with violinist Henri Temianka. From 1967 to 1983, she taught as artist-in-residence at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. After that she made her home in Asheville, North Carolina, where she died in 1986.Kraus' husband was Otto Mandl (b. 1889 d. 1956), a wealthy Jewish (later converted to Catholicism) mining engineer and philosopher. They were married on October 31, 1930 and Mandl sold his business in order to devote himself to the furtherance of Kraus' career.[1]. The couple had two children, Ruth and Michael.[1]Scans/Photos of the actual items are shown.  Condition should also be considered by viewing the photosYou can check the Stores, Shows and Sales.  Risk Losing a last second auction, if another one is ever available.Or I'll send it from my music room to yours for the price listedLooking for something to enhance your collection? Listing will be a little less descriptive than what I usually do in order to get more listed - Please ask if you have any questionsReasonable offers are always considered.  These aren't cheap.  Here's a chance to pick up one at a great price.I’ve bought and sold on eBay since 1997 – collecting and selling just about everything – if you’re looking for something let me know, I’m preparing to downsize portions of my collections and a large portion of my proceeds will be going to my daughter’s (aka: Little Nubby) college fund.  Please check out my eBay store.  Many great and interesting items will be listed…I treat everyone fairly and my feedback shows that.  Special requests, wish lists and all inquiries will be answered to the best of my ability.  I may not an absolute expert on anything, but I’m pretty knowledgeable about a lot of things….Shipping Notes: -         I try to get everything out the next available postal day after payment clears, but my ‘day job’ is very hectic and chaotic from time to time so there might be a couple days delay until I can get to the post office.  Further with the Federal closing of smaller post offices (mine included), it might take a couple extra days to arrive.-         If you need it quickly, just ask and I usually have no problem accommodating your wishes.-         I combine shipping.    -        I sell and ship internationally.  However, once it leaves the United States, buyers assume the risk of the package getting there, if it makes it to that country intact, which is more than fair. Blame France for that one.....Shipping rates vary due to location of where the item is being sent.  If I offer free shipping on any items it is for the United States only unless noted.Other Legal-eze:-         I offer a money back guarantee provided I get the item back in the condition it was sent and it’s within 30 days of receipt of said item.-         Payment must be made thru Paypal (per eBay).  Unless you are local and can pick the item up.  There are other arrangements that can be made if necessary – feel free to ask.Happy Hunting and Thank You for your time looking at my ‘trinkets’!INV#TCH80-1GWOPJ1RD10
