Nice Civil War Ebony Fife, MADE BY CROSBY, And MarkedDESCRIPTION: Scans show it all.....nice wooden (black ebony) Civil War fife. Long German silver ferrules on each end with nice patina. Nice appearance overall and has the characteristic slight "swelling" (about 1/8" larger diameter) at theblow hole. Besides the blow hole it has the standard 6 holes for fingering and playing notes.Still has the wooden plug inside, just above the blow hole, to insure thatthe wind went in the proper dir...ection. Fifes were a popular musical instrumentin every regiment and the sound was very military and carried well during the march and on the battlefield. Great to keep of the morale of soldiers in the regiment. A simplefife like this would play 3 octaves of notes, the top range of which could be quite shrill. Stamped just below the blow hole is the maker, "CROSBY" with their logo. A GREAT LOOKING PIECE TO ADD TO ANY COLLECTION AND ESPECIALLY TO GO WITH A COLLECTION OF MUSICAL RELATED ITEMS. Nicely made, and MARKED CROSBY FIFES ARE ALWAYS AN ESPECIALLY POPULAR ITEM FOR A COLLECTION.  Measures 14 1/2" long.  5/8" diameterat each tip, and of course the wooden body diameter is wider.
