VINTAGE BRASS DEVIL DOOR KNOCKER MARKEDYPRES and MADE IN BELGIUM Green Devils? A veryunusual door knocker, with an image of a devilish figure. The casting is very deep and I have includedside views of the knocker to show how well-cast and detailed it is.Mostattractively, it has a very stylish strike which frames the image, embellishedwith horns at the top.Lookingdown on the knocker, it is marked Ypres and the reverse is marked with a largenumber ‘2’ and made in Belgi...um. As theitem was made in Belgium and seems to depict a devil, I wonder if it isassociated with the First World War and the 2nd Chasseurs à Pied of the BelgianArmy (also known as the Green Devils).Overallheight of door knocker is approximately 3.5 inches (8.8cm) and width acrossstriker loop 1.9” (48 mm). Weight 129g. The front has been lightlyhand-cleaned, Apractical and very interesting old item for the collection, or maybe aninteresting gift for a friend.
