It has fully programmed auto, aperture priority auto and fully manual exposure modes, plus advanced features like meter memory lock, DOF preview and TTL metered flash exposure. It's Acute Matte foc...us screen is very advanced and makes its viewfinder brighter and sharper than most competitors' cameras. X-700 does have a weakness in most units except the very early production run - Minolta started right in 1981 using tantalum capacitors for X-700's release capacitors but shortly after they switched to aluminum electrolytic capacitors to save a few dollars. The electrolytic capacitor is a "wet" component (liquid filled) that tends to fail after a decade or two. When it fails, the telltale symptom is the camera looks and works like it is working perfectly, until you fully press down the button to take picture, then the shutter does not release and all lights go out. You turn the camera off and on and it repeats this cycle. There are two capacitors in X-700 (commonly referred to as C9 and C10 in repair shops). One is for aperture stop down and another for shutter release. It works in such a way that a magnet holds the release mechanism. The capacitors are charged. When the shutter button is fully depressed the charge is released to a coil to form a current that cancels the magnet so the stopdown/shutter is released. The electrolytic capacitor has liquid in it that dries up, leaks, bursts etc. When it is weakened and does not store enough charge you have release problem. One of the capacitors is under the ASA dial and very difficult to access, not mentioning that this specially sized capacitors are difficult to find replacement for.The unit for sale is from the early production run before Minolta switched to electrolytic caps. It has tantalum caps (see photo, the blue component). Tantalum cap is not a wet component and virtually lasts forever. You don't need to worry about its failure in the future. If you want a long lasting X-700, this is the one.The body here for sale has been fully serviced and bench tested. You may see lower prices on eBay but we are not those "I got it at an estate sale/storage auction but I know nothing about it", "It was given to me and I was told it worked last time it was used 20 years ago" type sellers. Also be aware when most "no-clue" sellers say "good condition" usually it merely means the physical appearance isn't too bad to their eyes - they don't even bother to install a battery to test it. Most will say "good condition" if the camera is still in one piece. We service and restore the camera and test all functions. When you buy from us, you know you are buying a serviced fully working camera. When the camera is delivered to you, drop in a roll of film and it is ready to go. We have CLA'd the camera body. We installed new back sealing foam and replaced mirror bump foam pad (no more sticky black goo or light leak), lubricated internal mechanics, cleaned viewfinder, focus screen and mirror, cleaned/lubricated ring resistor/aperture follower so meter moves smoothly no jumping, cleaned all film chamber internal and outside as such all lettering looks crisp and bright, and bench tested all functions. The camera's meter works and is accurate. Meter light scale is sensitive, sure and not jumpy. Shutter works and is accurate at all speeds. All functions work: auto and manual exposure modes, film transport, frame counter, hot shoe, self-timer, winding/rewinding - everything is bench tested. We did put on a Minolta flash for testing and the camera works fine with the flash including TTL flash metering. Viewfinder is bright and all display works fine. Split image focus aid is crisp. Focus screen and mirror are clean (a few small dusts are possible). All buttons and dials work as they should. The film back pops open nicely and closes snug. Cosmetically the camera is excellent condition. It does not have the usual strap loop wear around the corners, and the black finish is mostly intact, except a few small spots a long the hinges of film back. No dent or crack. Leather is intact and tight. All lettering is bright. Overall the body looks clean and good. See photos for cosmetics. Includes a generic body cap and the original strap (with viewfinder eyepiece cover and spare battery holder attached) as shown. Good working batteries will be installed in the body upon shipping.
