  If you like Very Dark to Black Foliage . . . this is for you  Gossypium herbaceum ‘Nigra’ BLACK COTTON . . .Black-Leaved Cotton produces Near-Black foliage and months of Hibiscus-like Dark Pink flowers turning to Dark Red that are followed by near-Black Bolls (pods) that break open to reveal the Fluffy, White Cotton. The upright, branching plants usually reach 18 to 36 inches tall and Flowers 45-60 daysIt thrives in full sun and rich soil with regular watering. Rarely seen in home gardens, this plant gives bragging rights to those gardeners who yearn to grow some unusual plants in their summer gardenIt's a dramatic foliage accent in the garden and fantastic in containers!  AnnualSun to Light Shade18” to 36”Flowers 45-60 daysRegular watering Space 30” apart sun to part shadeRare, exclusive, fresh seeds  Germination Plant seeds in 4” peat pots ¾” to 1” deep with loamy well-draining soil. Water them and place in a sunny spot above 60 degrees F. Start plants indoors 5-7 weeks prior to putting them outside. Transplant directly into ground or large outdoor pot in loamy or sandy well-drained soil when all danger of frost is overTo transplant, tear off the bottom of the peat pot. Use a tomato fertilizer every 2-3 weeks. Water plants to keep soil moist but not wet. If you have 4 months of no frost, you can grow cotton directly outdoors in rows 30” apart. Large Dark Pink-Red flowers appear in 45 to 60 days from sowing.Flowers begin to die off and bolls, which hold the cotton seed, begin to form. Harvest the cotton when bolls have cracked open and cotton is a fluffy ball – About 60 to 80 days after flowering
