It is the early Venus Spectracolor blue box version of Style No. 1400-48 from the 1400 series. We have seen the other 3 blue box 1400 series sets (1400-12, 1400-24, and 1400-36 with 12, 24, and 36 pencils respectively) but could not find another example of the 48-pencil blue box 1400-48 in mostly unused condition (we did find one other very well used example). Only one of the 48 pencils was ever even sharpened, and it’s the 1401 white pencil from the 1401-1412 package. The other 3 packages of 12 pencils (colors 1413–1424, 1425–1436, and 1437–1448) are still factory sealed! The Style No. 1400-12 package is the basic and most common set available so the new owner would likely have an easy time replacing the opened package if they wish (try finding another sealed 1437–1448, or even another 1425–1436 for that matter!). The pencils also have their individual corresponding numbers marked on them (if you plan on using them remember to sharpen them at the opposite end!). We believe the set dates back to the 1970s. The pencils measure roughly 7” in length although they do seem to vary in length slightly from one another. The pencils are in new condition with the exception of the one white pencil that has been sharpened and used. The box has aging, creases, peeling, bending, fading, discoloration, edge wear, scratches, nicks, dings, and dirty and/or stained areas. The box measures roughly 7 15/16” x 7 3/4” x 15/16”. The set weighs roughly 14.5 oz.
