Original 1942 Calendar advertising WATKINS from The J. R. Watkins Co., Newark, Memphis, Winona, Oakland - World's Largest Selling Liniment. Features DOUBLE CALL - World's Record Holder for Half Mile in 46 Seconds Flat - Bred and Raised at the Watkins Experimental Farm, Memphis, Tenn., on Watkins Liniment and Mineralized Tonic. Stamped at the bottom of the calendar is Your Watkins Dealer Raymond D. Zink, Ephrata, PA, R.D.3, Phone 495-J-3. Calendar is complete containin...g all months from January through December of 1942, and is stapled to backing which measures 16 X 8 inches. Has a metal strip at top with circular hanger. It is in excellent condition with no tears, stains or writing, just a few light, hardly noticeable wrinkles, not creases. This is from my personal horse racing collection - I've had it since the mid 1980s. Will be mailed flat. Postage $7.50.
Joseph Ray Watkins founded Watkins Incorporated in 1868 from the kitchen of his home in Plainview, Minnesota, and is still in business today. In 1942, 90 percent of Watkins’ production capacity was dedicated to the WWII Allied effort. Since its beginnings, Watkins has been family owned and operated. J. R. Watkins’ descendents—Watkins and Kings—guided the company through its first 110 years. In 1978 Irwin L. I have not been able to determine any further information on this thoroughbred race horse DOUBLE CALL, i.e. other races run, etc. But was able to determine that Raymond D. Zink was born 9/18/1905 in Lancaster, PA, and died on 7/13, 1987, at age 81 in Ephrata, PA. Would love to connect this vintage calendar back with his surviving family members.
