The Beatles : Yellow Submarine 3/1 1st Stereo Press (red lines!)This very collectable second pressing plays with stunning quality and hardly any interference. The cover is also in great order but with a name on the back written very faintly. It also contains the original black inner.Second 3/1 stereo pressing on Apple label with 'An E.M.I. Recording' on two lines but no 'Sold in U.K. subject...' text.G & L laminated cover with 'red lines' and Patent number etc.PCS 7070 ...// YEX 715 - 1 / YEX 716 - 1 // GO 1 / OH 1The audio on S1 is Near Mint (Mint- for the majority / track 1 Near Mint- / track 6 Ex+)The audio on S2 is Near Mint (Mint- for the majority)The cover is ExThe inner sleeve is Ex
The S1 label is Mint- and the S2 label is Ex+ Visual grading This vinyl is in superb condition and I'm not sure I've ever seen cleaner. It has a beautiful glossy sheen and I can only detect one tiny white 'speck' on S1 and one very faint hairline on S2. There are no scratches or marks either. This is such an impressive second press and the audio reflects its fantastic visual quality. There are only two faint spindle traces on S2 with just a little more on S1.Play grading'Yellow Submarine' has no 'background' on the intro at all, the clarity is incredible. After 15 seconds there is one very light click caused by a tiny white 'speck' that refuses to move! That is the only interference on the entire track and the fade out plays with perfect precision also. Despite the light click I still think this deserves a Near Mint- as the rest of the track does play as if was purchased only yesterday!I am pleased to say 'Only A Northern Song' has no interference whatsoever, not even a dust tick. The organ intro is 'as new' and it continues in the same way. For such an early pressing the clarity on offer could not be improved upon. This record is 50 years old this year and it is so rare for it to play as 'cleanly' as this. This is Mint- in my humble opinion.With complete silence in the dead wax 'All Together Now' is of the same 'high end' standard, there is just no interference to speak of. There is no distortion on the top end and having listened to this twice I am blown away by the audio quality. No clicks or pops and no static or crackle either. 100% stunning.'Hey Bulldog' again plays with wonderful depth and definition and yes...no 'background'. There is no distortion on the top end which is impressive when you consider that it's one of the louder tracks. Not bad for 50 years old!The same goes for Harrison's loud intro on 'It's All Too Much'. From then on it plays to the same sublime standard with maybe just a little distortion towards the end but this is only to be expected on such a 'high octane' track. It is only minor and does not detract from the listening experience. The fade out plays perfectly with not even a dust tick let alone anything more.'All You Need Is Love' ends the side with very clear audio but as always there is some inner groove distortion. This is unavoidable with this track and I have yet to find a first or second pressing that doesn't have it. There is no interference aside from that and the long fade out has no 'background'.-------------------------------------------------------------------------There is no need to grade each individual track on S2 as they all play with the same distinction. I cannot emphasise enough how stunning the clarity is on this side. Wow! It has obviously been hardly played. There is one very light click during 'Sea Of Holes' and 'March Of The Meanies' and the odd mega quiet dust tick but when you consider how quiet much of the side is the clarity and depth of the audio is so impressive. The vast majority plays with Mint quality audio and that is no exaggeration and unlike many sellers I listen to every second of every track so as to detect even the most minor of imperfections. 'Yellow Submarine In Pepperland' ends the side with audio of the highest calibre, there is not even a dust tick here. There are only two minor indiscretions across the entire side, you won't find many better on such an early pressing!to this highly sought after album. The last half in particular is absolutely stunning, it plays 'as new'.In summary the audio on this album is of a standard so rarely heard for such an early pressing. With only three minor clicks in total the clarity and definition of the audio is 'high end' and will not disappoint. The cover is also in lovely condition with only very minor shelf wear. A great example of this iconic album. The CoverThis G & L laminated cover (red lines on back) is in excellent condition with only light shelf wear. The edges and thin spine have no rubbing/marking at all and there is only minor corner wear. The opening edge has barely any handling wear. The laminated front cover has no marking and has just a few small creases next to the spine. The laminate has very minor wear on the bottom edge but it is hardly visible and only noticeable if touched. The back cover is one of the cleanest I have seen and the white background has no marking or staining at all but you can see a name written in pen near the top, it is only faint though. The flipbacks are also very clean with only mefa faint marking around the edges and they remain fully intact. Overall this is a fine example of this rare cover.Inner SleeveThe original doe-cut black inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no side splits and only a small amount of creasing. There is one mega small tear on the top edge.The LabelsThe Apple labels are very clean with no writing and only a couple of faint spindle traces on S1 but a little more on S2. The S1 label has no marking and whilst the S2 label has a small number of faint 'spots' they can only be seen when the vinyl is held at a certain angle.Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
