Here is a very rare early vintage autographed 5" by 7" of American musician, drummer, band leader, actor Gene Krupa (1909-1973), from his prime in the 1940s. From a High School scrapbook. Krupa began playing drums as a child. In the early 1930s, Krupa played in dance bands. Late in 1934, he joined Benny Goodman's newly-formed big band. Soon after the band's Carnegie Hall concert in 1938, however, Goodman and Krupa quarreled publicly and Krupa quit. He formed his own ban...d, which quickly became one of the most popular of the swing era. His subtlety, skill, great verve and spectacular visual style made the jazz drummer into a highly visible member of the band. The Gene Krupa Band was one of the most popular swing bands of the 1940's in America. Gene was voted most outstanding drummer in the United States in 1944. He was one of the most influential drummers in jazz history and first to be inducted into the "Drummer Hall of Fame." Known for the movies The Benny Goodman Story, The Glenn Miller Story, Make Believe Ballroom. Subject of the 1958 movie The Gene Krupa Story. Minor fading, white specks. A very rare early autograph with a strong signature.
