Lovely dish on low pedestal foot with nicely painted design of a phoenix on a rock among pink and blue peony flowers. Underside with flower scrolls, foot with turquoise green wave pattern, gold rim. Unidentified hand painted seal mark in red enamel to base. Probably mid to late 19th century. Candy colors and phoenix motif suggest the dish was made in China for export to the ‘straits Chinese’ population of Southeast Asia. Old chip to rim (see photo.) Small split in foot rim probably... occurred during firing, not later damage. Approx. 7” diameter, 2” height.
