For sale, a early Shelley / Wileman Cake Plate
Square / Antique / Queen Anne shape
19th century
The plate has no back stamp but can be confirmed as an early Shelly as set out below
Pattern number 3719 (entered in Shelley pattern book August 1887)
Registration mark 6559 (registered with the office of the Official Journal of Patent in 1884).
The decor on the plate is called "Floral Sprigs".
Reference: Susan Hill and Richard Knig...ht, co-authors of the book "Wileman - A Collector's Guide", pages 29 (with photo of this plate), page 93 (Registration Numbers with the Official Journal of Patents) and page 97, showing Pattern 3719 and the decor "Floral Sprigs".
The square plate measures just over 10" in diameter (including handle) and 0.5" high
This is a superb example that has survived in very good condition with no chips, cracks and only very minor utensil marks or wear.
The colour is still vibrant and the gilding bright with very minor visible rubbing
They really do not come as rare as this!
The plate will be sent very securely wrapped - tracked and insured
