Charming late Victorian Austrian brass postal letter scales, lovely display piece with a height of 145mm
This is a vintage POSTAL SCALE marked OESTR 1766 circa 1900 and I think was Made in Austria. The scales are quite free moving with a clever elaborate movement and quirky design.
The scale appears to be up to 8oz and there is a section on the front left which refers to 'Foreign Mail. The scales are made of a light pressed metal which has been black at one time a...nd which has the odd slight distortion in it, but it has also lost some of its colour and is a bit tarnished here and there.
I have not tried to strip or respray the scale in case an individual may prefer it in its original aged condition.Hopefully the pictures will give a good indication of its description and condition.
