This instrument is a BN serial number. Wonderful dark, focused, resonant sound. Great pitch. The instrument is full Conservatory with rare (for this series) low Bb resonance key and left F. Grenadilla body with silver plated mechanism.
I picked this up with big plans of having it gone over and using it as a secondary, but it’s just been sitting around for several years now. So time to let ...it go.
There is a very well repaired crack in the upper joint between the octave vents. In total I see 4 pins, but they are hard to spot. The repair is excellent, old, and very tight. Extremely well-done. There is also a repaired crack running from the F# tone hole to the tenon ring on the lower joint. This is a tight seal (and is over the tenon socket). The repair is totally functional but could be prettier - I would recommend having it touched up/redone purely for cosmetics (personal preference). These are the only issues that I see with the wood. The bore is excellent, smooth and clean. The mechanism is in good, clean condition with only normal wear. No damage or repairs. The silver plating is also in good condition. It is sold as-is.
The oboe plays as-is, but will definitely need a trip to a good oboe shop for adjustment to be performance ready. The pads look good for the most part. I would guess at least $500-$600 at a reputable double reed shop to be in optimal playing condition. The oboe will come in a newer protec case and will be oiled before shipment.
This is an excellent example of the very rare B series, with all the qualities that make it sought after. Great opportunity for a collector or professional oboist. Please feel free to ask any questions. Just in time for the holidays!
The instrument is located in the Bay Area - please let me know if you would like to see it or play it before purchase. I am a professional musician and teacher and do my best to describe my listings accurately. I am an individual, not a business, so all sales are as-is and final. Please ask all questions BEFORE bidding. US buyers only. Shipment and insurance will be through FedEx. Thank you and happy shopping! On Dec-03-19 at 01:44:13 PST, seller added the following information:Please note that this instrument will *need* to go to a good double reed repair shop to play at its best. It does currently play (as in I can get up and down the range of instrument - low end isn’t easy), but not well, and certainly not at a performance level. It has not been serviced or played regularly in many years. It hadn’t been when I picked it up and I’ve had it laying around for probably at least 8 years.
There are adjustment and seal/suction issues, as well as click/play in the keys for being out of adjustment. The pads look okay overall (to me), but it is likely that some pads and many bumpers should be changed to improve seal and action. Teflon topped adjustment screws wouldn’t be a bad idea either. This is why, as stated above, I am estimating that it will need *at least* $500-$600 in work at a *reputable* woodwind repair shop.
Please know that you will not be receiving a performance ready instrument out of the box. It is my assumption that whoever purchases this instrument will be knowledgeable about oboes, be looking for B series Loree, and is likely to have their own, preferred tech ready to make it perfect for them. I hope that this is clear - please feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.
And once again, US buyers only, please. No international shipping. No ebay global shipping. US Buyers only. Thank you for your understanding.
