Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a unique and somewhat rare microphone from the 1960's era. This ribbon microphone was produced by just a couple Japanese manufacturers but this one is the Aiwa model VM-12 and it's in excellent working condition with its original element. It comes with the original yoke shown. This mic was an early Aiwa microphone that was it's top of the line mic and utilized an all metal body making it reliable... and durable. The mic has a classic ribbon "pill" mic look with the overall shape and lower yoke and was almost a direct copy of the RCA 77DX of that time. The body has some weight to it with those large magnets and motor inside. The mic utilizes the bi-directional characteristics making this a good mic for broadcasting with more than one user or singing with in a group or where you want to pick up a guitar or piano while playing. It's set at Low impedance and does not have an adjustment for direction or sound. You can always tweak the sound with your audio equipment of course. It has a warm, smooth, strong signal. Tested and works like new despite original components. It was very well taken care of over the decades. The mic shows lite wear on the polished chrome body in the form of a few scratches and scuff marks but free of any dents, pitting or corrosion. The metal screens are very nice and free of any wear. The original inner cloth screen shows no rips or holes. A very good example of a VM-12. There is no serial number on this mic. The VM-12 comes with a short 8 inch original cable and original Switchcraft male end connector. The cable is soft, pliable and free of any stains or damage. You'll want to use an extension cable if you plan on using this mic. Even if you don't use this mic it will make for an excellent display piece in any fine vintage microphone collection. The mic is real tight. Nothing loose inside or out. Joint mechanism / lower yoke works perfectly and provides plenty of tension with the two thumb screws. This mic is appx 6 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/4 inches wide (10 inches tall with lower yoke) and it will screw onto any American vintage stand as the mic has the universal adapter with 5/8 X 27 thread. I'd give the mic a solid 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking. Again, a somewhat rare early Aiwa ribbon mic that will only increase in value if properly taken care of. If you don't want to shell out $2, 000.00 plus on a RCA 77DX but love the looks and sound of a real ribbon mic then this should be fun to use. The sound was not a top notch as the 77DX and this mic doesn't have the adjustment knob the 77DX had but it still sounds great. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...
