World Famous American Artist: Arthur Secunda (b.1927)
Original Description:
ORIGINAL SERIGRAPH"BLUE OCEAN"ARTIST ARTHUR SECUNDA This is an extraordinary, very special Original Serigraph created, printed, Signed & Numbered, by world famous American Artist Arthur Secunda (b.1927). He entitled it, "Blue Ocean". It is a large piece, one that tested the talents and experience of this fine art artist, and one that can command a large corporate or home wall or space.   "Blue Ocean" brings us a beautiful impressionistic o...cean-scape. It is in the definitive style for which Mr. Secunda is so well known. Often referring himself as 'a landscape artist', certainly he provides an exacting, unique, colorful aura to his striking graphics, including his landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes, and now ocean-scapes. Here, Mr. Secunda presents a pure, solid blue sea. Below the ocean is the land in darker colors of red, dark gray, and black. Above is the sky in multiple bright colors starting with reds and red-oranges, on to creams and whites, then to yellows, golds, and finally a fine art red wash. The artist's torn paper techniques are called 'dechirage' from the French word 'dechirer' meaning 'to tear'. "Dechirage is an artistic style that distresses paper to create a three-dimensional patchwork". (Wikipedia, "dechirage"). Art Voices Magazine has reported: "In Secunda's work, 'dechirage' is an outcome of his long, active experimentation in color theory and form. His involvement with the graphic media, which is curiously a dual approach of cerebral and expressionistic fervor, imparts an immediacy conducive to unlimited directions." (Betje Howell, "California Profiles: Arthur Secunda", Art Voices Magazine, January/February, 1981). "Blue Ocean" surely confirms this. This is a beautiful modern torn paper collage, a superb serigraph image'! The artist is internationally renowned. His symbolic landscape imagery and his sensuous colors express well his vibrant style. Mr. Secunda was born in 1927 and studied in New York and in Paris, Rome, and Mexico City. He resided in Los Angeles for many years but now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona and in Southern France. He has had over 150 solo exhibitions including the Musee Reattu in Arles, France; the Palm Springs Desert Museum in California; the Contemporary Arts Center, Honolulu; and the International Art Fairs at Basel, Paris, and New York City.  Mr. Secunda is well known for his torn-paper collages and his famed graphics. He is a teacher, a painter, a sculptor, a critic, and an expert printmaker. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Louvre in Paris; the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Chicago and Detroit Art Institutes; the Library of Congress; and numerous other museums, plus university, corporate, and private collections.  Critic Frank E. Edebau, Oostende, Belgium, is quoted by Pierian Press: "In Secunda's work there is a sensation of greatness and profound thought. His art is that of a man who has had 'love affairs' with nature for a long time. When he represents the sea, mountains, beaches, a sky, there is no stopping place, no limit; horizons flee, plunging through space. His style is as large as nature herself." (Pierian Press, "Arthur Secunda").  Nissa Torrents of University College, London, in a monograph for an exhibition at Galeria Joan Prats in Barcelona, Spain, wrote: "Brilliant color and vital optimism emanate from Secunda's collages and prints. The line in Secunda's work filters through the cracks in the tears or accumulations of color, giving the work vibration and movement. Often the line seems to be outside the work, either in the artist's eye or behind what is evoked." (ibid.).  And in the same vein, Writer Betje Howell in Art Voices Magazine agreed: Mr. Secunda's graphics with "their extraordinary range of brilliant color and technical virtuosity… Tonal chromatics, and an astonishing combination of color forms, extends the visual range. The land and skyscape give the illusion of macro-spatial configurations which appear limitless." (Betje Howell, "California Profiles: Arthur Secunda", Art Voices Magazine, January/February, 1981).  Mr. Secunda is one of the world's most famous and beloved living artists!  T.T. Nieh & Associates of Falls Church, Virginia, published the "Blue Ocean" Edition in 1981. It is a 13-color serigraph printed between October 1980 and March 1981. The printer's chop is imprinted in the lower left margin of the piece. This "Blue Ocean" Original Serigraph is number 84 from the artist's limited edition of 250 pencil-signed & numbered serigraphs plus Proofs. Its image size is 38" high by 22" wide; its paper size 44" by 28¼". The piece is in new condition, having been kept in a Mylar sleeve, climate-controlled, and never framed.  It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the fine art gallery from which it was originally purchased.   This is an impressive, exquisite serigraph, very collectible, by an internationally-famed American Artist!  Copyright 2019 Artanew.US   RE: PACKING & SHIPPING – In the shipping cost, we include shipping the artwork in a special, hard, 6-inch-diameter fine art shipping tube that we purchase from a company in Atlanta, Georgia, especially for that purpose.
