Rare Vintage C1880 " The Dorman " Lockstitch Sewing Machine With Base

This charming and rare "Dorman" lockstitch sewing machine is in "as found" condition.Produced in Northampton, by the Dorman Sewing Machine and Engineering Company. The company seems to have only survived for 17 years and closed in 1902. The machines were advertised as affordable and lightweight.The machine has its' heavy cast iron base.The base and machine have retained much of its' original black japanning and some of its' gilt decoration, however, the machine does have the loss of p...aint, scuffs and scratches that you would expect from a well use machine of this age.The exposed metal work has lost its' finish in places and there are some rust blemishes.I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.One of the prongs that holds the cotton reel in place has been broken at some point and the shuttle and bobbin are missing.The sewing head cover is stamped "The Dorman, Lockstitch Sewing Machine, Patent. The Dorman Sewing Machine and Engineering Co. Northampton, England".The serial number is stamped "7375"The body and base is free from chips or cracks, the porcelain handle is well attached and sturdy.The machine still moves well with a smooth action.This machine is in need of some TLC to bring it back to its' full glory.
