ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Beautiful & Ultra Rare OOP (Long Out-of-Print) Vintage Mid Century 1942 Collograph Print of Two Fly Fisherman in a Canoe titled “The Shell Heap” (Florida), after the original watercolor painting by the world famous listed artist ‘Winslow Homer’ (American, 1836-1910), whose printed signature appears lower right in the image area and the date ‘1904’, appears lower left respectively. ‘Copyright New York Graphic Society, Inc., Fine Art Publishers’, as appears printed lower left in the outer margin area just beneath the image and ‘Printed in the United States of America by Arthur Jaffé, Incorporated’, as appears printed lower right respectively (For: The Arthur Jaffé Heliochrome Co., 1936-1980) and New York Graphic Society’s copyright & initials, ‘© N.Y.G.S.’, appears lower left in the image corner, and the title appears printed lower middle in the outer margin area along with the artist’s name ‘By Homer Winslow (American, 1836-1910), as well as the location of the painting ‘In the Brooklyn Museum, New York City’. A quote about the meaning behind the title of the painting from a 1904 exhibition, as stated in a newspaper article from The New York Times read, “The Shell Heap” shows a layer of prehistoric shells in the bank where the Indians once feasted. (From: mocavo, online digitized newspaper article, The New York Times, “Art Notes”, Friday, May 5, 1904). The Print is on a nice medium-heavier weight cream-colored wove paper stock. The inventory number ‘No. 5780’, appears upper right in the outer margin area just above the image. The Print is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age and has been in a drawer in our archive amongst other prints & lithos since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light-of-day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as good as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. Size with wide margins is 22” x 18-1/16”, Image size is 18” x 12-5/8”. No Tears! Extremely minimal (literally only a couple) of tiny faint foxing specks which are only visible in a few outer margin areas, and aren’t even worth mentioning as they are completely negligible and easily matted out. Extremely minimal slight small crescent-creases here & there in the image area which aren’t even really noticeable at all (except from behind) and aren’t even worth mentioning either. Other very minimal slight creasing here & there in the outer margin areas, and slight outer margin edge wear with some dents & dings here & there, as well as tiny dog-ear creases in the outer margin corners—all of which are completely negligible as well and easily matted & framed out. Slight toning of the stock from age. This vintage collograph art print has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade. Simply beautiful! Due to the Antique/Vintage nature of MOST of our items, at our discretion we ship items flat or in heavy-duty tubes and they are securely & safely packed with each item wrapped in packing paper or archival glassine, then secured in between oversized cardboard or rolled in a heavy duty tube, then bubble-wrap is added, as per the item's specifications. Smaller items (like postcards & small prints) will also be securely & safely packed with each item wrapped in packing paper or archival glassine, then secured in between oversized cardboard, then shipped in a bubble-lined envelope.
