We believe this to be an early Unsigned Juan Quezada Effigy Pot Circa 1970. Juan's early work was inspired by the shards of Paquime ( or Casa Grande) pottery that he found in the hills near his rural home. This led Juan to spend years rediscovering and reinventing his entire ceramic production. These early pots were formed by only the potter's hands. No pottery wheels were used and the clay was obtained locally from around the village. The early pott...ery was dung fired on the ground not in a kiln, which produced the rough unpolished look of this piece. It is a nice piece to add to any serious collection. It is in good condition considering it's age and firing method. The last photo reflects some clay has flaked off from the front of the knees on each side and the underside of left foot. You can see from the first photo frontal view that this is not very obvious. There is also a crack on backside seen in Photo #8 above. However the price reflects this damage. The last five photos above feature all sides close up. Please review photos to make sure piece meets your approval. It is 8" Tall, 16 in circumference and 7" wide. It does not include a pottery ring, but will sit on it's own. All reasonable offers considered.
