They are all from the collection of a Soldier. He is identified on the reverse of each one as"Charles W Baum Company D 48th Pennsylvania Vol Veterans. 1st Brigade, 2nd division." Charles was 17 or 18 years old when he enlisted in 1863 with the 48th Pennsylvania Vols. After the 48th mustered out, he re-enlisted again with the 48th Pennsylvania Vol. Veterans. This unit is known as the Schuylkill County unit.... Charles, however was a resident of Berks County when he enlisted. He died in 1905 and is buried in the Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading, Berks County.
