The M-1 steel helmet was a revolutionary design, with a removable liner housing the suspension and sizing system. The M-1 soldiered on into the 1960s, and in the classic "Mitchell" camo cover, quickly became symbolic of the hard fighting "grunt" in Vietnam. This US Army USMC Marine Vietnam "TWILL" SHORT FLAP MITCHELL CAMO M-1 HELMET COVER is in near mint condition, with some light brownish soiling, whitish edge rim wear, and a hand cut chinstrap tear at each side of the crown, and ...with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the cover is in near mint shape, with no other damage to the crisp 100% cotton "twill" construction. Most interestingly, it's fully reversible, retains nearly 100% of the vibrant Mitchell camouflage colors at both the green "jungle" side and the brown "autumn clouds" side, and is dated 1967 in the "COVER, HELMET, CAMOUFLAGE" nomenclature stamping at the interior of one short flap.
