Up for auction is a tin friction 1953 Mercury hardtop car made by Alps/Rock Valley of Japan. The car measures 9 1/2 inches or 24 centimeters long and it is in complete, excellent condition. This car is propelled by a hand held cable remote; when squeezed the car's wheels start to spin. The remote works works very well. The front of the car has a little lever that allows you to reset the wheels in three directions, either straight ahead or to the right or to the left. Thus, the car can ...travel in a straight line or a curve to the right or to the left. The car is in excellent condition with a terrific two tone paint that is in very good condition. The paint has a nice gloss and the colors are very vivid. There are a few chips in the paint and a few tiny paint touch ups. There is one larger touch up on the back of the car near the back window (see photo #5). It is well done and hard to find and the paint is a great match. The window glass is original and in great condition with no tears or cracks. The very detailed interior is in great condition. The chrome trim is bright and shiny and the hubcaps are quite beautiful. The base is in excellent condition and as mentioned above, the cable controlled friction motor works very well with a loud siren like sound. Sadly, the Mercury division of Ford was discontinued in 2010. Here is a terrific tin friction version of an early 1950's Mercury. It is pictured on page 146 and 147 of the great Big Book of Tin Toy Cars. Thanks for looking!!!! Questions are welcome and I will be happy to provide additional photos. Shipping will be 9.50 in the U.S.; overseas shipping will vary by country and method of shipping. Paypal is preferred for payment and within 24 hours of end of auction, please. Thanks again!!!
